The Future of Engineering at Coimbra

TSC is proud to introduce the successful installation of a state-of-the-art Virtual Reality Control Room (VCR) at the University of Coimbra’s Chemical Engineering building. This advanced facility is designed to enhance students’ understanding of real-world operations and control systems, providing hands-on experience with multiple engineering disciplines. 

While housed in the Chemical Engineering building, this VCR is intended for use across multiple engineering disciplines, ensuring a broad impact on the university’s educational offerings.

Voice Over IP (VOIP) Phone System: Facilitates seamless communication within the control room and with external contacts.

Radios: Enables effective communication for field operations and emergency situations.

Wall-Based Alarm Panels: Displayed on small monitors, these panels allow for real-time monitoring and alterations.

Speaker System: Plays realistic plant sound effects to simulate an operational environment.

Networked PCs: The room includes 2 trainer and 4 trainee PCs networked on a Local LAN, all installed with a range of dynamic process training simulations.

Custom Desks: Designed to mimic the layout and feel of an actual control room, enhancing the training experience.

Virtual 3D Environment: Located in a separate room, this setup allows a field operator to connect to the control room via a dedicated PC, offering a comprehensive training experience that includes virtual reality field operations
